Ball Lock Issue
Ball Lock Issue
I have some very strange ball lock behavior. It will say "Ball one locked" but then spit it back out at me. Sometimes it will say ball one locked, spit it out, and put a ball in the shooter lane. If I do eventually get all 3 to lock they stay behind the pin until ball search, a long ball search, then only one comes out. I've tested all of the switches I think are relevant and they seem to operate fine actuating them with the ball. Ramp entrance, head entrance, both ball locks and trough switches seem to be fine. Any ideas?
Re: Ball Lock Issue
Hi Shredso,
Thanks for mentioning the switches seem fine when testing with a ball.. that's important.
It's possible the two "lock" switches on the wireform are switched around. I think there are connectors below the playfield and it's possible to switch them.
lock2 should be the top one
lock1 is the bottom one
I remember this being an issue for people after converting to 2.0. The original game probably doesn't mind them being switched around.

Re: Ball Lock Issue
Thanks for the reply. I did check the locks, and that is how they are connected. Took me a bit to figure out because they aren't called locks on the switch matrix but lock one is closest to the player. I will try swapping just to see what happens.
Re: Ball Lock Issue
Ok, also those switches should stay closed as long as the balls are in the respective lock positions.
Re: Ball Lock Issue
The 2 wireform lock switches are on one harness so there is no way to reverse them. Switches definitely stay closed. Maybe I will replace both switches just for the heck of it?
Re: Ball Lock Issue
Despite both switches testing correctly, sounding right and being properly adjusted, I replaced them. I don't know what else to do. It didn't help. I'm guessing there is a hack or fault in the game somewhere. It's a routed game. This is frustrating. I've turned a decent working game into a brick. The start switch registers multiple entries when entering initials. I saw on this forum replacing the switch helped. I haven't tried replacing that. not sure if it could be somehow related. I'm reaching, I know. I'll try and post a video tomorrow of exactly what it does.
Re: Ball Lock Issue
Hi Shredso,
Have you tried the Switch Test in the BoP2.0 service menu? Because the way you had trouble locating lock1 and lock2 I'm not sure if you're maybe using the BoP "1.0" service menu?
If there's anything funky happening in the switch matrix you might be able to see it in the 2.0 switch test.
Throw the balls in the lock wireform, see which switches activate? Make sure the "enterHead" switch works 100% of the time. Maybe post a video..
Also this forum is very inactive, most 2.0 owners who might be able to help don't check here, but rather on Pinside. I can help in some cases but I'm not a pinball tech and I don't have a BoP2.0 myself to test with (I don't work at Dutch Pinball anymore).

Re: Ball Lock Issue
Everything looks fine in the 2.0 test, I tried both to be certain. My trouble was the manual doesn't call it ball lock, it calls it wireform top and bottom. I will try and post a video. As I mentioned in the other post, I have started a thread on Pinside. We can move the chat there if you are active there.
Re: Ball Lock Issue
I apologize for the awful quality of the videos, but maybe it's better than nothing.
Video 1 shows ball lock registering, spitting the ball back and putting a ball in the shooter lane.

Video 2 shows if I delay the ball from getting to the wireform switch until the ball is in the shooter lane it stays.

I made a 3rd video showing the switch test while doing all of this, unfotunately the screen isn't visible from that angle, I'll have to have someone hold the camera for me.

Re: Ball Lock Issue
I have this exact senario, and I am wondering if it’s related to another thread where the computer appeared slow and was fixed by replacing the SSD.

Re: Ball Lock Issue
I figured out that in BoP 2 switch test, that if I put a ball up the left ramp, it auto-releases from the wire form. It’s like that is hard coded… Is that expected?
I may ask this on Pinside too.

Re: Ball Lock Issue
I reset all of the cables connected to the P-roc board and that fixed the issue. I may replace the USB cable, if the problem recurs.
