Bride's head turns endlessly
Re: Bride's head turns endlessly
Thanks, guys. I just checked the gearbox a while back for an unrelated problem. Turns out someone had installed too large a washer on the axis that the head turns on. This was causing the head to bind when it turned. Who knows, maybe that put stress on the gears/motor which is giving me grief now.
At the time, the gear box looked fine, but I'll take a closer look, clean, relube with teflon (used lithium before).
If no improvement, a new motor it is.

Re: Bride's head turns endlessly
Alright, looking better, guys. The motor is *much* quieter now. I took the gear box apart, and one of the small posts that go trough one of the gears was bent, which I noticed when I turned the gears manually. I straightened it with pliers, cleaned off the old silicone grease and sprayed on some Teflon. If that's not the right stuff, let me know.
I'm guessing it was the bent post that was the problem, making the motor work much harder than it needed to.
I have only done a handful of multiballs, so I'll keep an eye on it for the next few days, but I can tell the motor is quieter. I didn't realize it was loud because I'm used to it, I guess. Thanks, guys!

No problem mate and fingers crossed. Being bit jealous
and also I'm not. I'm still waiting for my kit and not excited anymore about Bop 2. If you got any question just send a message mate.

Re: Bride's head turns endlessly
Yeah, I lost interest a little while waiting for the kit, but I think once you get it installed you'll be pleased. Hang in there.
Re: Bride's head turns endlessly
Ugh, motor is moving better, but the problem is back, as I feared...
I guess I will replace the head switch next as I ordered a new one.

Re: Bride's head turns endlessly
Vince, can you do me a favor and ask the guy who you think had a similar problem what he ended up doing? That is, if you remember who had the problem?
Thanks.
Thanks.
Re: Bride's head turns endlessly
I went through multiball with the glass off after I replaced the switch. No issues, but that's all I had time to do because something came up. Will test more tomorrow.
Re: Bride's head turns endlessly
I had a similar problem with the head not finding the correct position during MB. My issue was one of the eye switches was being triggered when the head moved. DP corrected this in code in a later release. This was before the 2nd set of kits shipped.
Re: Bride's head turns endlessly
Thanks, so that's probably not my problem since I'm on the latest release.
Since I rebuilt the gearbox, I think the problem is happening less frequently (like 10% of multiballs?) but it's still there. I also replaced the face position switch out of desperation.
Not sure what to do now except maybe buy a new motor.

Re: Bride's head turns endlessly
The thing is, if I let two of the balls drain, leaving one, the game does stop the head from moving, so the software does have the ability to stop it.
Re: Bride's head turns endlessly
Well, I can get the head to stop in the middle of two faces again in test mode. I tried that after I went to multiball and the game turned the head just one face to the left (two eye locks) instead of two.
Screw it, I'm ordering a new motor/gearbox from Marco.

Re: Bride's head turns endlessly
When I first got my Bride it was just off route, I went through endless problems with the head getting it to move correctly. So I totally sympathize, it's not fun!
Re: Bride's head turns endlessly
Absolutely no issues since replacing the motor. What a sweet game! I'm starting to not cringe anymore when I get multiball

Re: Bride's head turns endlessly
Got the same problem, gearbox replaced, switch 67 replaced, relay replaced, machine is still confused, head will spin continuously during multiball in BOP 2.0 and does not behave itself in BOP 1.0, sometimes starts on the optics face and when it starts on the correct face it will skip to face 3 instead of two when she speaks, what a headache, anyone know the answer to the problem?, no faults on start up, switch behaves as it should in test BOP 1.O, head rotates in both directions suggesting that relay is good, can't help feeling it is a software error, any help appreciated, need to get my bride happy, just made some inner cab and backboard decals for the BOP 2.0 also which complement the cab, these up on ebay with my shuttle mod etc etc.

Re: Bride's head turns endlessly
Andy,
Sorry if you haven't gotten any help with this. I haven't been to these forums in a while.
When the head turns continuously during game play, you should be able to go into switch test (unlike the original 1.0, your game won't end when you go into test mode) to see if the head switch is being activated when it's supposed to.
My issue was that one of the pins in the gearbox was bent, causing the motor to turn too slowly at times. I believe the 2.0 software was timing out if the head did not turn quickly enough, whereas the orignal software was a little more tolerant. That's why my motor was working fine in 1.0.
I suspect you may have a flaky switch or something.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Good luck. It has been a couple months, so maybe you have resolved this.

Re: Bride's head turns endlessly
Thanks for your response, think all the switches checked out OK in test, also swapped the gearbox for a different one (it was not new but seemed to be turning freely) maybe I was unlucky enough to have two rogue gearboxes and a new gearbox is the remedy, may have to go down that route just to eliminate, will report backw hen I have an update..

Re: Bride's head turns endlessly
I just wanted to add a similar issue I had for future readers.
My head turning issue was slightly different to what was talked about above.
It was only seen in BoP 2.0 and it would activate occasionally when a mode was triggered from the scoop (Move your shuttle, g-force challenge, etc). During these modes, the face shouldn't be spinning. I had no steps to reproduce as it was only occasional. The only thing I knew for sure was it happened after hitting the scoop to trigger a mode. At that point, if it occurred, the head would begin to turn and MIGHT stop on a difference face. In one case the head stopped part way between faces.
While I was servicing my BoP, I took the step of replacing the roll switch inside the brides head. Although it appeared to test OK in switch test mode, I was concerned about how the switch felt sticky when pressed. After swapping it over, I've not encountered the issue again.

Re: Bride's head turns endlessly
That's true. However if you have ended multiball this turn, the game will use the first opportunity it has while the ball is being held somewhere to turn the head to the "normal gameplay" (robot face with no holes). So it's possible the head turns back to that face during a wheel mode intro.Jesder wrote:During these modes, the face shouldn't be spinning.
Re: Bride's head turns endlessly
Very true, that's a good point to bring up. In my situation though, it wasn't the game resetting the head back to face #3 after a multiball. In the situations I had, the brides head was already on #3 where it should be and then once a game mode activated, would start spinning and in most cases stop on a difference face. In one case it stopped half way between faces. I was never able to reproduce it in any frequency though to report it or investigate more - the only common thing was entering the scoop to start a mode and it already having face #3 selected.Koen wrote: That's true. One thing I have noticed is that when the ball is in a safe spot and it resets the head after multi-ball, it will often play the "Abort, Abort" speech during the head spin, even if you hit the shuttle ramp enough times to complete the multiball mode (with the animation on the display showing the space shuttle being lowered underground). Is this correct?

Re: Bride's head turns endlessly
Yes, it plays "Abort, Abort" when resetting the head, no matter the state of the game. Maybe a bit confusing.Jesder wrote: One thing I have noticed is that when the ball is in a safe spot and it resets the head after multi-ball, it will often play the "Abort, Abort" speech during the head spin, even if you hit the shuttle ramp enough times to complete the multiball mode (with the animation on the display showing the space shuttle being lowered underground).
