Latest batch BoP1.0 display size
Latest batch BoP1.0 display size
Hello everyone,
It has been brought to my attention that the latest batch by CoinTaker (at least partially) uses a different display panel because the original display panel could not be sourced anymore. For BoP2.0 apparently display scale 10 works fine (as instructed by CoinTaker), but in 1.0 mode (Williams) the display does not scale appropriately. This will be fixed in the next update, which we'll try to release to our beta testers soon.

Re: Latest batch BoP1.0 display size
I don't know about the quality of the previous panel, but I am not impressed by this one. Especially the viewing angle. Black is only black when you are right in front of it, at a 10-15 degree angle (like, when playing a pinball machine), black becomes light gray. Anyone has a cheap fix (I thought about rotating the display 180 degrees)?
Re: Latest batch BoP1.0 display size
I'm on 1.19, new install, just purchased. Original game display looks awful. Has this been fixed?
Re: Latest batch BoP1.0 display size
In version 1.18, this is one issue that was fixed:
- PinMAME emulation now scales according to the display scale setting to
support displays with a different resolution.
Have you tried adjusting the scaling value of the display: Adjustment Menu -> Display -> Scale. If I'm not mistaken this should be turned down to ~10 on the latest batch.
If that doesn't help can you post picture? "looks awful" can mean a lot of things.
Thanks, Koen

The display looks fine in 2.0 mode. Scale is set to 10x. Vertical position 52%, horizontal 50%. Window border 40 pixels. All settings the way I got it. The original game display is slightly to the left and maybe fills 1/3 of the screen. Link to pics below. Thanks!

Re: Latest batch BoP1.0 display size
Hi Shredso,
Thanks for the photo.. that definitely helps.
What we see is the original PinMAME display (the 1.0 game emulator). Which I agree is ugly. What normally happens, is a script resizes that PinMAME display to the smallest possible size, moves it to the top left of the monitor (behind the speaker panel, where it's hidden), and then the game emulates a nicer looking alphanumeric display, while keeping a look at that small PinMAME window in the top left corner to match the content.
For some reason the script that resizes the PinMAME display isn't working anymore.
To fix this you'll need to get a mouse and keyboard out, and maybe even an external monitor (or remove the display from the speaker panel).
If you are willing to try that, let me know and I'll look into what we can do to check what's wrong.

Re: Latest batch BoP1.0 display size
That wouldn't be a problem at all to attach a monitor and keyboard. At that point it may be easier to remove the computer, is that an option?
Re: Latest batch BoP1.0 display size
Reverting to an earlier version gives me a big screen that looks better. Unfortunately it's too big. 2.0 still looks fine. Maybe I'll try deleting 1.19 and reinstalling? What should I do when I plug in the keyboard and mouse?
Re: Latest batch BoP1.0 display size
Hm, yes deleting 1.19 and reinstalling would be my suggestion, although you'll lose any highscores that were set since the 1.19 update.
The fact that the display is working in the earlier version means that the window moving script (AutoHotKey) is still intact, so that can't really be it. Quite puzzling actually, hope the 1.19 reinstall helps...

Re: Latest batch BoP1.0 display size
I deleted the old 1.19, installed a new one off the USB stick. Changed the game to 1.19 and it hung up on a black screen. I let it sit there for awhile in case it was installing something. I got nothing for probably 10 minutes, so I forced a shut down. Now it boots to this black screen with a mouse cursor. The screen has a weird black square blink every so often. What now?!
Re: Latest batch BoP1.0 display size
In case anyone else gets a failed update, there is a text file named version in the program folder. I just edited that back to 1.16 and it booted fine and another try at the update worked perfectly. Unfortunately, it did not solve the screen issue.
Re: Latest batch BoP1.0 display size
Do you think a total fresh install might help? What else can I do here? I have no high scores that I care about, between this and the ball lock issue the game is basically bricked.
Re: Latest batch BoP1.0 display size
Can you try, while 1.0 is running:
Windows key + E (opens explorer)
Go to (not sure of the exact folder, but you've been there before to update the version file):
C:\Dutch Pinball\brideofpinbot\1.19\pinmame\
Now double click the pinmame.ahk file that should be there.
The game normally executes that script to resize and move the ugly PinMAME alphanumeric display out of the way (hidden behind the speaker panel).
Does that move the PinMAME display in any way?

Re: Latest batch BoP1.0 display size
I happened to open task manager. Windows key+E was not responding. CPU usage is at 100%. There are 3 instances of start.exe running adding up to 98% CPU usage.. I added a couple new photos to the folder showing the CPU usage. I'd really like to start from scratch with a fresh install.

Re: Latest batch BoP1.0 display size
While the game is running that is as expected.
The game spans 3 processes, explaining the 3x start.exe:
- the game (including all graphics)
- the display
- live functionality
The game is in a constant while loop to react to potential to switch hits and feeding graphics to the display process. This explains the 100% cpu.

Re: Latest batch BoP1.0 display size
There seems to be some sort of "always on top" feature that is preventing me from seeing the open explorer window in 1.0. I can get to the folder in the select game menu and in the 2.0 game no problem. Maybe this is preventing the correct display as well? I've started a thread on Pinside for both issues. If you are active there we can move everything to Pinside. I will post the resolution here once we (hopefully) find it.
Re: Latest batch BoP1.0 display size
This still hasn't been resolved.
Re: Latest batch BoP1.0 display size
For those reading along, I came in contact with Shredso again via Pinside and he indicated that this issue was still unresolved.
Hi Shredso,
I'm sorry this issue has not been resolved yet. In my defense I only rejoined DP this year and did not have access to a working BOP2.0 myself till a couple of months ago.
But I'm glad you are still willing to try and fix this issue, so hopefully we can work it out.
You say "There seems to be some sort of "always on top" feature that is preventing me from seeing the open explorer window in 1.0.". I'm not sure what you mean, but I can open the explorer on top of the 1.0 display (Windows key + E).

You mentioned being able to hook up an external monitor (or remove the display from the display panel).
If you do, and when you then select the 1.0 software, this is what you should be seeing:

The important thing here is the small black/white display in the upper left corner. This is used by the big display to read pixel data off of.
Now remembering your screenshot (link is dead) and seeing my description of it, you are not seeing the black/white display in that position and size.
Now my suggestion would be the same as I posted above:
"Go to C:\Dutch Pinball\brideofpinbot\1.19\pinmame\
Now double click the pinmame.ahk file that should be there.

Here is the pinmame.ahk file that should be at that location:

Re: Latest batch BoP1.0 display size
I replaced my display and updated to 1.21. I tried following these instructions but in the 1.21 folder instead of the 1.19 folder. Windows Key+E does not work while in 1.0. Or more likely, it's happening behind the white alphanumeric window. Nothing I do while in 1.0 gets that white alphanumeric display out of the center of the screen. I was able to get to the start menu though. I added that .ahk to the start menu and was able to start it while in 1.0. It did fix the display. The game is unresponsive though, or responding very slow. CPU is pegged at 100% and everything is super laggy. I tried adding credits and waited a few minutes, I didn't hear the credits being added until I shut it down. Something is either wrong with this install or the hardware.
