Rug homing / wrong place wrong time?

Post by sdtom »

Just wondering if there's something I don't understand about the rules, or my rug is having some issues.

I'm not sure what the homing routine is for the rug, but def see it go all the way back then forward occasionally.
3 times now I've gotten "rug mode ready" with the rug heading towards or already at the front of travel vs back. Hitting it at this point, won't make it budge.

so thinking i have a bad switch / out of calibration switch somewhere or there's something funky with the homing routine itself and it gets the wrong idea about where it is?

ok so yesterday evening i looked at the rug mech. Seems to be composed of:
- leaf switch at Front of travel
- leaf switch at Back of travel
- leaf switch within the rug carriage to detect hits
- stepper motor obviously

so after fondling all the leaf switches (and connectors to the boards) manually, and reseating the IDC connector for the stepper pins; my particular issue of rug misbehaving by being forward during "rug mode ready" and doing a lot of homing routines (full backwards, full forward) between each ball seems to have gone away. Not knowing the software not sure what would of been the most likely cause, so will leave it to the DP staff to speculate. I also put a tiny amount of silicone grease on the screw drive while i was there.. as I have the same type of screw drive system in my hobby 3d printer and grease is required there. maybe DP can chime in if specifically not recommended to do that.

I found the activation email, it was in my spam folder.

I forgot to mention I also put a small coating of grease on the drive screw for the rug. It seemed to run much smoother after greasing.

I will have to try reseating all of the associated connectors next time I go to the garage. Hopefully that will help too. The double check in the software would be a nice addition, I'll pass the word along

Any luck? Mine continues to work pretty well after reseating.

I haven't made it over to the garage to try anything yet. I had a catastrophic tractor breakdown and worked all weekend...

I'll let you know when I make it over there.
